Days following surgery

The days following surgery were ok, the nights SUCKED they did not sleep much at all but then again when I have a sore throat I don't sleep real great either.  They would wake up between 8-9 most days and it would take them until 1-2 to actually wake up for the day.  They would come lay on the couch and just sleep on an off.  Then we would get up and try some lunch, soft foods, drinks and such.  We let them carry around a sippy cup with water but had to be careful because we took the stoppers out(things that make sippy cups not spill) so it didn't hurt their throats as bad.  I let them pretty much eat and drink whatever they wanted to except hard things that would have hurt them.  The first night Landon was eating and choked...literally choked had to finger sweep him to get the meat out of his mouth.  It was scary and he doesn't chew normally so with his throat swollen he wasn't able to swallow.  We did a lot of hanging out the house and cuddling, which I was alright with but felt like I got absolutely NOTHING done.

This was a few min. they felt good, they would play for a little bit and then come lay or sit back down

20 min. of play wore them out

Taking medicine like big boys...wasn't always the case but as much as they had to take it did pretty good.

Surgery

The boys have been sick constantly for the past few months Landon was on his fifth strep and Tristan fourth, so after the third one(worse one) our doctor had us see an ENT.  Right away the ENT said they should have their tonsils and adenoids out and tubes put in.  She suggested doing them both the same day, as it would be hard it would be better in the long run.  Leading up to surgery both boys ended up getting sick and having temps so didn't know if we would be able to have the surgery.  I called the ENT office the day before to explain what was going on and the doctor said to keep on the Ibuprofen and Tylenol and come in the morning.  The last couple nights were tough because Landon was sick and up a lot and wanted water which was really hard the night before surgery because he couldn't have anything to eat or drink after midnight...poor guy.   The morning of surgery both boys had temps of 102 and Strep again(we found out after surgery).  We got to the Surgery Center about 7:00 to get both boys checked in. Nurses came in and did vitals and checked them all out, the room was so cute and the boys normally would have loved it with toys and animals all over but not today...they just did not feel good AT ALL!
Of course (Landon above and Tristan below) were sleeping good and we had to wake them up to go.

Landon just felt so shitty

Tristan was asleep already, he did't feel good either

I know this is sad to say but how stinkin' cute does Tristan look in his hospital gown?

Landon back asleep...poor little guy

this is the room isn't it adorable and right up our boys alley?

Anesthesiologist came in and talked to us about everything(he was very nice has twin boys himself and nice looking).  He said in an ideal world we would not want temps and wouldn't want them sick but in our situation with them being sick so much and not really having much time that they were not sick that we were going to go forward with the surgery as long as their lungs sounded good...and they did.  That talked made me a little nervous but I knew they wouldn't have surgery if the boys were not ok to do it.  The nurses came in and gave them some medicine to relax them for when they would take the boys from us back to surgery.
Tristan liked his socks and did great when nurse was messing with him

Landon on the other hand felt so miserable he couldn't sit still

Mommy and her boys before they went to surgery after the medicine to relax them

Next, Dr. Sarah Powell came in with another nurse and talked about how it will work with doing two kids the same day.  They would take Tristan start surgery and then another nurse would come get Landon and take him to surgery when Tristan is almost done.  By that time Tristan back will be almost done or finishing up and by the time she would be talking to us I would have Tristan in my arms.  So I asked some questions and such.
At 8:05 am the nurse took Tristan back to surgery and I did ok and he did GREAT!  He didn't cry or shed a tear.  I think I did ok because I had Landon in my arms still.
Then at 8:25 another nurse came for Landon, this one didn't go as smoothly he cried the whole way down the hall for mommy in his hoarse voice...poor boy.  I sat in the room with my head down and cried as the door was open and I could hear him crying for mommy.
After surgery we talked to doctor she said surgery went well tonsils looked bad and needed to come out  they were covered with white spots.  She saw some fluid in ears but didn't look too bad but needed tubes.  During surgery Landon had a hard time because he was so sick before surgery with a temp.  The nurse told me that his heart was beating fast which I am glad I didn't know until after surgery was over.  Tristan did well and cried a little for mommy when he saw us but mainly just wanted his iv out. Landon did ok after surgery but just wanted to sleep.  Well, both wanted to sleep at first then Landon did a good some drinking but Tristan didn't want to drink anything.  Tristan almost threw up a few times so they gave him some medicine and he feel asleep and then after a little while maybe an hour or so Tristan started drinking and ate a little applesauce, so I think his stomach was upset.  Landon was just so tired, took us awhile to get him moving but by the time we left the surgery center Tristan was doing pretty good.  We left there early afternoon around 1:30 or so.

Once home it was very low key lots of laying around and snuggling.  We tried to stay somewhat on a schedule with them getting ready for bed and going to sleep in their beds but didn't know if they woudl stay in bed.
Once we got home and settled it was nap time and quiet time for everyone, except mommy ( I was trying to get things picked up and house in order again)

One game can make you feel so crabby...

For all you that follow me and know I haven't posted much it's because I have been in season with basketball and it gets a little crazy this time of year.  Unfortunately last night we lost 65-64 in the Final Four game.  It is a little hard to stomach today but as we look back on the season we should not be disappointed, just need a few days.  We improved so much as the season went on and were playing great at the end just needed a little more time last night.  We started off too slow a 16-1 start, we spent most of first half and beginning of second just getting back into the game.  It was a great come back and if we would have had 1 more min. we would have got it done.  We won the GPAC regular season and GPAC Tournament which in this conference is really hard to do.  In the last 12 years 11 of them a GPAC school won the National Title.  Tonight is the Championship game and there is not a GPAC school in it so it will not be a GPAC school again but 2 out of 13 years is not bad for our conference.  Jared is also really busy this time of year with all his sports at Briar Cliff (the women also made the National tournament) and he works the tournament doing all the stats and getting workers for the stats.  After tonight we will have a few nights at home as a family before Jared struts into his outdoor soccer season with Heelan girls High School team.  We are always busy but that is our life!

Busy Saturday

This past weekend was a busy one for us, Friday night after practice we had a wedding to go to.  A friend of ours that we play Sand Volleyball with in the summers.  She was suppose to get married in August but found out Christmas that she was expecting.  She wanted to fit into a wedding dress at her wedding and since she would be 36 weeks pregnant they decided to move it up and planned it in 10 days.  She got everything she had for her August date, photographer, cake, reception, church, caterer, everything but her dress but then got one that was very similar to the one she wanted!  That is awesome and meant to be!  The boys enjoyed running around and dancing with mommy.

Saturday was the big Briar Cliff vs. Morningside Basketball game and then my good friend Heather was getting inducted to the Hall of Fame.  We played basketball together at Briar Cliff for three years.  It was a busy day and I couldn't find a sitter for my game, so who came to the rescue...Janet!  Thank goodness they are only an hour 20 min. away that she just jumped in the car on Saturday got here by 11 and left Sunday before weather got bad.  Jared was in charge of all the Hall of Fame stuff and they had a luncheon at noon so he needed to be to work early and I had shoot around and then game.  Janet stayed with boys and we ran in and out and then after they got up from nap(a three hour nap, they must have danced too hard the night before:)) she brought them up to the game.  I wanted my friends that were back for Heather's induction to be able to see them.  After the game and chatting we went back home got boys settled and then off Jared and I went to celebrate Heather's induction!  We went down to a bar with some of Heather's friends, from Sgt. Bluff, college and high school.  We had some pizza, enjoyed catching up with college friends, and being out!  Jared and I don't go out much especially during my season because I feel I am gone all the time and boys are already with a sitter a lot.  But we had a great time.  We were going to leave and then notice the Notre Dame vs. Louisville game was in double overtime and wanted to to watch that.  Then it went into another overtime and another and another five overtimes later we left the bar...great game!  We had a good night with great friends!  Oh for you wondering we beat Briar Cliff which puts us number one in the conference with two games left. Our conference is the toughest conference in the Nation so this is a big accomplishment thus far and hope we can finish the next two games with wins.  Our conference has won the National Championship 11 times out of the last 12 years...pretty amazing huh?  We hope to have another one do it this year and hopefully it be us!

Sunday was church out to lunch with Janet to thank her for helping us out and then saying good bye to Janet and nap time...for all!  Well, expect Jared he had homework to do.   Jared is getting his Master's, he has been super busy with that the past year and half.  He is taking two classes this semester on top of his busy basketball season!  I don't know how he does it but he does a great job.  It is really hard on me some days though because on his days off like Sunday instead of doing things around the house or hanging with the boys and I he has to do homework:(.  It stinks but hopefully will be worth it someday.

Past Weekend...

This past weekend my parents came to visit which is always a good time.  Friday on their way here they went on a little detour to Salon (a casino, 20 min. south of Sioux City).  Then came to our house about 5:30 because I had practice and Jared had to work til 5 and I didn't get done until about 6:30.  We then went out to dinner to Hungry's, one of my dad's favorite places to eat ( a little steak place in Dakota City, NE).   After that we went home to get the boys down and dad asked mom if he could take his son-in-law to the boat(the casino in Sioux City).  If you haven't figured out yet my parents especially my dad loves to gamble:)!!  Mom didn't care so off they went, mom and I watched TV for awhile and then went to bed because I was tired, mom slept with me, to give dad a good nights sleep.  She has been getting up during the night (a couple-many times) so thought I would give him a break.  She did pretty good but on the other hand I did not, I was worried about her so I was up A LOT but that's ok.  She only got up once because her neck was really bothering her (probably slept on it wrong).  Well, the next morning the boys got up and we all got ready for the day!  Dad keep teasing me you want triplets(mom), because I usually am helping the boys and mom get dressed and ready for the day.  Jared had to go to the wrestling meet and dad went to a gun show.  I had a game so I left for a shoot around then came back ate lunch and then mom, dad, and I went back to the game and Jared stayed with boys while they napped.  After game we hurried home to get Jared and boys to make 4:30 church and then out to eat at Applebee's.  It is usually just pretty laid back with going out to eat with the parents, hanging out, talking and watching TV.  Sunday dad went back to the gun show for a little bit while I cleaned and mom played with the boys.  Not a whole lot of exciting things for our weekend but a fun one and much needed!  I love when my parents come visit, since during season(the winter months) I usually don't get home much.
On a side note, they also brought our Christmas gifts and boys birthday gifts and they were all awesome!  The boys love new things and they got tractors with wagons and animals!  They were in heaven.  They absolutely love animals, tractors, trucks, anything boy!
Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday so I had JV practice at 12:30 so the ladies could watch it and if Jared wanted to go somewhere we could.  Well, we ended up going over to a friends that he works with and watched the game until about the 3rd quarter.  The boys were loving having food sitting on a table so they could eat whenever and whatever but they were making a mess and I felt bad.  My boys are great eaters and our friends committed on how good of eaters they were.  We are lucky they are not picky but they are messy but thats ok, they are boys right.  They also spilled water, pop, and beer so that was not good but our friends said the carpet was old and no big deal I hope they meant it because I felt bad.  It was a boring game until the lights went out and then if became a good game!  Baltimore held off San Fransico 34-31.  I didn't get a chance to watch the game right making sure the boys were not ruining their house.  They had tons of toys for them tho so that was great!  We had a good time, very low key which was nice.
